 What We're Doing
 

The Economic Security of many families in Northeast Oklahoma is at risk as the national economy plummets. To help struggling families and communities, in May 2009 Northeast Oklahoma Community Action provided: 

 

Central Intake

  • 25 contacts completed 25 clients were interviewed for other agency services; 25 referred to emergency assistance; 22 to Income Tax Service; 14 to Homeowner-ship; 14 to Weatherization; 11 to RX for Oklahoma; 5 to Financial Empowerment; 5 to Housing Rehabilitation; 6 to Head Start and 2 to Affordable Housing

 Emergency Assistance

  • 15 families (33 individuals) received emergency assistance totaling $3,876.60

 3-Month Follow-up

  • Rent Assistance- Of 4 families assisted, 4 remained in their homes
  •  
    Utility Assistance-Of 22 families assisted in January 2009, 21 continue service and 1 moved or disconnected 

 Head Start

  • Preparing grant applications for HS Expanstion, Early Head Start, and Quality Improvement Funds
  • Pre-service activities conducted the week of June 8-12, 2009
  • Congratulations to Janice Colston for completion of her Associates Degree
  • Attended OKACAA conference
  • Completing enrollment and notification process for upcoming school year

Housing

  • Completed rehabilitation of 4 units Miami, 1 unit in Afton 
  • 10 Attended Home Buyer Education Class; Next class scheduled for May 30, 2009 in Jay
  • 4 Down Payment Assistance Closings
  • 145 units to be rehabbed, of these 51 units completed
  • 2 Continuum of Care units in Miami; North Miami and Grove units occupied

 Income Tax Preparation/ Financial Empowerment Center 

  • Provide Financial Education classes in Ottawa County on the 3rd Saturday of each month

 Rx for Oklahoma NEOCAA 

  • 258 new clients in the 18 county areas
  • 1460 new claims in the amount of $960,132.
  •  
    103 pending claims in the amount of $110,004
  • 23 new physician added to program
  • Health Fairs are planned in Okmulgee and Nowate in April

 Weatherization

  • Increased staff to 11 new employees that were previously unemployed
  • Attended Weatherization Training sessions in Oklahoma City

Northeast Oklahoma Community Action operates a variety of services to help individuals and communities overcome life obstacles.

When an emergency arises such as past due utility bill, rent or house payment to prevent eviction, disaster relief, homelessness, and more, we strive to assist you.  

Financial Empowerment through education, tax preparation, and, homeownership down-payment assistance.

 

Phone service for as little as $1 a month. Click here for more information on the Lifeline and Linkup Programs. You may qualify!

Head Start child development for 3 or 4 year olds, parent involvement, health and development, meals, and eight locations.

Housing development. Assist with purchasing a home, building a house, rehabilitation of existing home, or weatherize your home to reduce energy use.   

FREE Income Tax Preparation and financial education classes.

Prescription drug assistance. Help with pharmaceutical company application, short term prescription, and application for Oklahoma Rx Discount Card.

Weatherization energy saving measures based on energy audit recommendations such as insulation, weather strip and caulk, and much more.
