New Eyes: Providing Glasses for Those in Need
The ability to see clearly, while taken for granted by many of us, is not a reality for everyone. Many people in the United States struggle with uncorrected vision because they have no resources to buy eyeglasses.
To assist these individuals in need, NEOCAA works with New Eyes, also known as Eyes for the Needy, a program that provides new prescription eyeglasses for low-income individuals.
New Eyes assists individuals who have no other resources with which to obtain eyeglasses by providing a basic pair of single or lined bifocal lenses at no cost.
Because the program only accepts applications from social service agencies and nonprofits, at NEOCAA, we are available to be an advocate for those in need of prescription eyewear who don’t have the means by applying to the program on their behalf.
The process is simple. We process the application and the client selects the frames from a website. Once approved, we will order the eyeglasses and they will be shipped to the individual’s home.
There are a select number of frames available for men, women and children. The eyeglasses are basic eyewear and no extras or special requests, such as tinted progressive or Transition lenses, can be added.
The New Eyes program is income based. Approved applicants have no out-of-pocket costs in receiving their New Eyes glasses.
Applicants must have an eyeglasses prescription dated within the last 12 months, including their pupillary distance (PD) measurement before applying. NEOCAA does not help with the eye exam.
